CNN recently released an article declaring Occupy Wall Street "fizzled out." The media's treatment of Occupy follows the trend of the media's marginalization and trivialization of social movements in general. Why? Because social movements often go against the status quo, a status quo the media benefits greatly from. In this manner the media stifles civic participation.
