Social Media Apps Help Public Agencies, But Raise Questions
Social media are changing the ways that police departments and other public agencies do business. VOA's Mike O’Sullivan reports from Los Angeles that while new media can monitor police and keep the traffic moving on congested highways, questions are being raised about their use.

A Moscow march to protest election fraud unexpectedly drew tens of thousands of people on Saturday. With 40 percent of Russian adults online, many say social media, including the Russian social networking site VKontakte, has made it possible for a long stalled opposition movement in Russia to organize a rally that size. North Korean propaganda has emerged on popular Internet social media sites. It is not for domestic consumption as virtually no North Korean has Internet access. Rather it is targeted at other countries, especially South Korea. But in the democratic South, considered the world's most connected country, the government blocks such content. VOA Correspondent Steve Herman reports from Seoul.

Congress Struggles With Social Media
House Democrats warned Republican leadership of a coming clash over new rules fining lawmakers who use popular social media tools such as Facebook Live and Periscope to broadcast action on the House floor. The social media penalties are a direct response to last summer’s gun control sit-in when protesting Democrats used livestreaming to get their message out to the public.
